Permits
Entrance Permit
An entrance permit is required when a new entrance onto a County road is requested, or when any work, replacement or addition is made to an existing entrance onto a County road. This applies to entrances with or without culverts. There is a charge of $150 for this permit.
Setback Permit
A setback permit is necessary to establish minimum setback requirements from the middle of the County road to a building foundation or the distance from the property line to the building foundation. There is no cost associated with this permit.
Sign Permit
A permit is required when a sign is requested on private property adjacent to the County road allowance. Cost for the permit varies. In addition, the County Tourism Signage Program allows businesses to erect directional signage on County road allowances; this can be arranged through the County or Canadian TODS Limited at the businesses’ expense.
Oversize and Overweight Load Permit
If you are planning to move an overweight or oversize load over County roads, a permit is required. There is no cost associated with this permit.
Notice of Reduced Load Restriction
A By-law to enforce periods of reduced vehicle loading is enforced on select County roads that may be susceptible to damage and stress if exposed to heavy loading. This is typically during the "spring break up" period when a road base is at its weakest condition as ground frost melts and thaws.
Section 122 of the Highway Traffic Act provides the County with the authority to pass by-laws to restrict axle loading to a maximum of 5 tonne per axle in order to protect the integrity of the County's road network from damage.
Load restrictions apply only when the signs are displayed on the roadway. Signs are generally posted between March 1st and April 30th and may be removed when it is deemed that the restrictions are no longer needed.
Vehicles exceeding the 5 tonne per axle load restriction must take alternate routes or will be subject to penalties described in the Highway Traffic Act.
Special Events on County Roads Permit
Special events; such as parades, sidewalk sales, festivals, etc.; using County roads require a permit. There is no cost associated with this permit.
