The third quarter of 2009 has been marked with individual staff and corporate achievements, and I would like to take this opportunity to recognize these hallmarks.
After a long search through the summer, John Butler has accepted the position of Finance Director for the County of Peterborough. A very dedicated and knowledgeable employee, we are extremely pleased to have John step up and keep the County on course.The County is very proud to have the Ontario Municipal Administrators Association recognize CAO, Gary King for his 20 years of service. As well, Clerk, Sally Saunders and Operations Supervisor – Special Projects, Grant Ashton have been recognized by AMCTO for their 10 years of service. Congratulations for your awards of service to the public in the municipal field.
Lastly, the County has achieved a remarkable partnership with the 12 other Eastern Ontario upper-tier municipalities to bring high-speed broadband to our rural communities. Approved for 110 million in funding from the Federal and Provincial governments, the Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus (EOWC) has been incredibly busy preparing the RFP and governing model to bring the project to full implementation. Although the EOWC has worked together for years, lobbying the governments on important community concerns, this is the largest funding amount received for the area and the first project to be implemented region-wide. I anticipate great results from the Wardens, Mayors and staff of the EOWC taking broadband to the edge.
